We want as many people as possible to be able to use the MoneyHelper website.
On this page you’ll find information about the ways we have made our website accessible.
We’re constantly looking to improve the accessibility of the service we provide, please use our feedback form so we can evaluate changes.
British Sign Language (BSL) support
We’re trialling the Signly widget to support access for British Sign Language (BSL) users. This is in addition to access via the video relay service InterpretersLive!Opens in a new window
Use InterpretersLive! for areas of the site like the tools and calculators that have more personalised options than our text pages.
What is Signly?
Signly adds a small video popup interpretation to selected web pages for BSL users.
How are we piloting Signly?
The MoneyHelper website is for everyone. As Signly is a new accessibility service for us, we are starting with ten pages. To help us learn from this pilot, please share your feedback (currently a text form).
How to use Signly
To access MoneyHelper with BSL select the Signly symbol (the small hands icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen) on any of the ten pages already translated.
Once Signly is open, you’ll see a person in a pop-up video window who will sign a bespoke BSL interpretation of the content. When you’ve finished, use the ‘close’ button.
The service is free to use and provided by qualified sign language interpreters.
Requesting interpretation for other pages
If a page is not yet in BSL, you can ask for an interpretation. Use the Signly request button on the page. A version is usually added within a week.
Only text pages are interpreted using the Signly feature. If you need support with interactive tools and calculators, contact us via the video relay service: InterpretersLive!Opens in a new window You can access this by selecting the BSL option from the Contact Us page or pop up.
Welsh language pages
The current pilot service is on our English pages but not on our Welsh ones.
If you’re on the Welsh version of the site and want to access the information in BSL, please switch to the English version to activate the Signly widget.
Signly is not available on the Welsh site because the interpretation uses English-language BSL. English lip patterns alongside Welsh text could be confusing.
BSL Pension Wise service
You can connect with a BSL interpreter to explain the options for taking your defined contribution pension.
Other accessibility features on MoneyHelper
Signly isn’t the only way we’re trying to improve the accessibility of the MoneyHelper website.
Screen reader and speech recognition support
If you use a screen reader, (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver), you should be able to listen to most of MoneyHelper.
You should also be able to navigate most of the site using speech recognition software.
MoneyHelper is designed so that you can navigate most of the site using just a keyboard.
Zoom and browser settings
You can change colours, contrast levels and fonts, and zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen.
MoneyHelper is designed to be accessible on smaller devices like mobile phones as well as on computers and tablets.
Accessible formats
Signly adds interpretations to selected pages for BSL users.
We also make the website text as simple as possible to understand.
Welsh language provision
MoneyHelper is available in Welsh as well as English.
